First aid kits are necessary so that you can treat minor injuries, whether it's a small or medium sized cuts and headaches. A first aid kit can also reduce the risk of infection or the severity of an injury. It is a must have at home and if your are going out, for example if you are going to the park or camping out in the woods for the weekend, its a good idea to bring a first aid kit along. In addition, it's useful to any age. With a first aid kit within easy access, you ensure the safety of everyone. But first, there are many steps and materials to have to make this a positive statement.

Step 1: Design and choose the right size of bag for the kit.
  • For example you might use an old metal lunchbox or you can go to the store and find a medium size bag, like the one shown above.
  • Make sure that it has a zipper or latch so that it can close.
  • If you are expecting to go on long trips, maybe buy a large bag so that it's capable of holding everything you'll need.
Step 2: Choose the material to go inside the kit, and make a checklist.

You might need to go to the store or maybe you have these things at home, but at the minimum you should include these basic necessities. (NOTE: you can add things that aren't listed but necessary for yourself.)
    • Variety of band aids of different sizes (Small, medium, large)
    • Adhesive Tape
    • Ace Bandage (to wrap wrist, elbow, ankle and knee injuries)
    • Gauze
    • Alcohol prep pad
    • Flashlight (just incase you are out and aren't surrounded by lights)
    • Tweezers
    • Scissors
    • Neosporin or any type of healing ointment
    • Hydrocortisone (for bites)
    • Medicine, for example :Tylenol, Advil, or Neosporin.
    • Hand Sanitizer
    • Gloves
REMEMBER THESE MATERIALS NEED TO FIT INSIDE THE KIT BAG.

Step 3: Put everything inside your kit
  • Grab the kit bag, and put the items where they fit.
Step 4: Read the first-aid manual so you'll understand how to use what's in your kits.

  • Parents may want to make sure their children are aware of where it is.
Step 5: Close the Kit and put it somewhere reachable.
  • YOU NOW HAVE A FIRST AID KIT TO TREAT MINOR INJURIES
  • You can take it on car trips or traveling, and keep it in the house for safety.
Step 6: Update the kit after every use.
  • For example, if you used band aids or wraps, make sure to restock it so that it's all ready to go!
WARNING: DO NOT LET YOUNG KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 7 TREAT THEMSELVES.

CAUTION: KEEP CLOSE TRACK OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION EXPIRATION DATES AND BE MINDFUL OF SIDE EFFECTS.

NOTE: Make sure you know how to properly use all of the items in your kit, especially the medications. Always read directions before applying. You may include other things that is not listed above. The best place to leave it at home is in the kitchen because most family events take place there.

Kaitlyn's Trip Report

I took a trip with my friend Holland to Alberta St, which is only a few blocks away from Concordia University. As we were walking we came across many restaurants that all sounded and smelled very delicious. We decided that we would stop at the Waffle Window. It was such a cute little place and they had options for any type of waffle that you could think of. They had some with veggies on it, Nutella, or fruits. Along with the waffle you could get sides such as eggs or bacon to go on the side.
Me and my friend both decided to get the one called "Strawberries at Midnight".

The Strawberries at Midnight included the waffle topped with strawberries, whip cream, and chocolate drizzle. Since the weather was very nice that day, we decided to sit outside because we saw cute little benches out there before we ordered.

It took about 10 minutes or less for them to prepare the order and serve it to our table. As soon as we got it, me and my friend took pictures before we started to eat. When I took my first bite, I felt like I was in heaven. The waffle was moist and everything on top made it taste very sweet.
Me and my friend Holland were only able to eat 3/4 of the waffle because we would have gotten sick if we ate the whole thing.

After finishing out waffles, we decided to explore Alberta St. even more. As we walked more down the road, we came across a boba place called Townsheds Teahouse. They had assorted boba flavors with the choice of adding boba if you wanted to. I decided to get the Matcha with whole milk and boba.
It tasted very good! The mixture of matcha and milk was equal and not to overwhelming. Ever since my first sip of the matcha boba, I can't stop going back for more.

My life

My name is Kaitlyn Marumoto-Torres, and I was born on October 4, 2000. My heritage is Japanese and Hawaiian. I grew up in a small town known as the Big island of Hawaii. I started going to St.Joseph Jr/Sr High School in 6th grade and graduated in May 2018. In high school I did my best to stay involved whether it was by joining student government, athletics, or clubs. As a result, I developed many friendships and still talk to a few of my friends from high school.

One of the things that I liked about my school, was that it was an international based school. As a result, I got to meet and learn about people from different cultures, which was a great experience for me. In my family I have my: parents, step dad, step mom, two half brothers, one half sister, and one more on the way. My mother is a stay at home mom in Hilo, Hawaii and my dad works as a tech at a veterans home in Nevada.
My step dad is a Pharmacist Technician and my step mom is a elementary teacher. I have a good relationship with my mother and consider her as my best friend.
My everyday hobbies include watching netflix, listening to music, playing percussion, and dancing. In addition, I love to travel and go on hikes, to explore what nature has to offer. For example I recently went on a hike to Mauna Kea and a valley that is in my hometown. It was worth the hike, and hiking is also a way for me to relieve any stress.
One of the things that inspires me the most is risk. Starting something completely new and having no idea of how it will turn out, keeps my everyday life interesting and motivated.

As I go through my first year of college some of my short term goals include getting good grades, and being able to balance extracurriculars and school work while still having time to myself. Another short term goal of mine is to travel more. I want to go to places outside of the United States, such as Paris, Italy, Europe, and Mexico. By achieving these goals, it can eventually help me achieve my long term goals. In my future, I hope to achieve the goal of getting into a good medical school. Once I get into a good medical school, I can achieve my next goal of becoming a specialized surgeon.
